Dr O’Driscoll has asked me to make practitioners aware of the 2013 Arsenal FC SEMS Conference, run by the AFC Medical Department and held at Emirates Stadium on 25 March 2013. Please find current information below.

Arsenal FC SEMS Conference 2013 – Current hot topics in elite sports medicine

The management of and screening for Cardiac Events, developments in Concussion, aspects of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics

FSEM UK CPD Accreditation to be applied for

Dr Gary O’Driscoll, Arsenal Football Club Medical Director, and Mr Colin Lewin, Head of Medical Services, are delighted to confirm that the 2013 Conference will take place on Monday 25 March 2013 at Emirates Stadium. Building on the success of previous conferences, this day will be high level, interdisciplinary and as interactive as possible. Open to all medical and scientific healthcare professionals working across a wide range of sports, the day will be attended by up to 250 delegates and is aimed at SEM Faculty Fellows, senior doctors, physiotherapists and professional healthcare staff working with elite sportspersons.

This year the main topics of discussion will revolve around the management and screening of cardiac events, the increasing concerns around concussion in contact sports and issues around the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

We are very proud to announce that the former Arsenal player Mr Fabrice Muamba will be presenting on the events surrounding his on field collapse last year and subsequent spectacular recovery. As well as Fabrice we will also have presentations by Fabrice’s Team Doctor who attended the collapse, Dr Jonathon Tobin, and the consultant who oversaw his recovery Dr Sam Mohiddin.

There will also be a number of short case studies presented of difficult diagnoses

Stadium Guided Tours

Please note that there will be the opportunity for attendees to take a guided tour of Emirates stadium and its facilities. However the two tours have limited availability (maximum of 30 per tour) and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please indicate when you register that you would like to join a tour.

Included in the delegate fee of £150 inc VAT is attendance at all sessions, FSEM accreditation, attendance certificate, refreshments and food, a guided tour of Emirates Stadium and a post event memory stick with all presentations uploaded.
