Please Read these reviews as it is important if you are making an appointment to see Helen For many it is their first Appointment with an Osteopath so you have what to expect and for patient feedback satisfaction Edinburgh Online and Google reviews. Helen works from her home as she has expensive machines and she cannot take them to other clinic rooms elsewhere in Edinburgh. She uses Cefar compex to activate weaken stiff soar muscles which is why some of the reviews are outstanding. Once the motor units have been activated most patients go off back to their own personal preferences exercises, classes or other therapies.
PART 1 Our Modern Habit of Sitting on Buttocks makes our buttocks weak, because the motor activation ends are at the button off our gluteals and sitting on the motor points means you will be more prone to chronic low back spasms.
Chronic Back Pain because you have weak gluteal muscles
Learning to Activate Gluteus Maximum
Extracts from Professor Stuart MCGill -low back disorders – evidence-based prevention and rehabilitation.
A good back needs help the gluteal muscular function and the problem is that the gluteal muscles and memory to points switch off in people with a history of back trouble is, and they also believe that because we set on our gluteal muscles and the motor point of our gluteus maximus is right at the bottom of the muscle. And therefore, if you ask whether carefully you will find that complex machines are used by a leading sports rehabilitation teams, both in the USA and the UK because the athletes do not have the time or energy spend hours in slow rehabilitation processes which is normal in traditional rehabilitation in on the gymnasiums.
Each time you sit on your gluteals or sit down on your button you are sitting down on your motor points of your gluteals which insidiously slowly switch off over the years. As your gluteal muscles get weaker and lazier over the years your back muscles have to work extra hard and the lactic acid builds up in your low back muscles and prevents normal nutrients, circulation and healthy oxygenation of your low back muscles with in turn become chronically soar and inflamed.
Unfortunately, retaining the gluteals cannot be performed with simple traditional squat exercises that use a machine. Performing a traditional squat requires little hip abduction. Consequently, this is little gluteus medius activation and the gluteus maximum activation is delayed during the squat until lower squat angles are reached. This is well documented by McGill So many of those exercises which you thought would be so gorgeously helpful only increase the lactic acid build up over active lumbar and psoas back muscles.
LEARNING TO ACTIVATE GLUTEUS MEDIUS
The first stage involves isolating gluteus medius. Once again the patient needs to feel the muscle perceive its activation. Here you can look on this excellent you tube video.
Although now a days you should be using the Compex for 3 or 4 sessions so you activate and wake up your gluteus medius because is so easy to work the wrong muscles it takes ages it is time consuming and because one is trying so hard one often is working all the wrong muscles and creating other problems elsewhere in the body.
LEARNING TO USE YOUR GLUTEUS MAXIMUS OR BUTTOCKS IS TIME CONSUMING AND RATHER BORING
Lying on the back with the knees flexed and the feet on the floor, you place your fingers on your gluteus maximus to feeling activate you must squeeze your buttocks together. The focus is on your pelvis at this stage to ensure that there is no pelvic tilting the lumbar spine must remain neutral
then once learning to squeeze your buttocks together you can begin to BRIDGE OR LIFT your buttocks off the floor.
Try and feel that you are not activating your hamstring. Most of our have our and string tightness or dominant and most of us have we the term given to this very dominant pattern in those who have over active hamstring is called crossed pelvis syndrome but this is also seen in some of the sports specific athletes such as cyclists.
To over come hamstring domination tendency most patients spend hours in pilates classes all of various coaches and personal trainers. Which is why so many of the elite coaches and physiotherapists can easily use compex for a few sessions instead of hours and hours in the gym. It may seem like cheating too many of us but with so many competitions for all the different sports, but it is important for the sports were time management is essential
Why is it so important to active the motor nerve units and why does motor nerve stimulation seem to be so beneficial?
Read the below absolutely genuine outcome from using motor nerve stimulation on a chronic weak knee injury you will see that the progress is slow but after a few months he is better. By firing up the motor nerve units the muscles, tendons and ligaments are no longer so starved of nutrients and oxygen which is so important in the remodelling and regeneration of damaged soft tissues. There is congestion, debris builds up, the micro circulation is sluggish and the repair systems is weak and less effective, it also slows down with age. (sorry to say that) That is why one of the most important programmes in the cefar compex protocols in increase circulation, without increased circulation the muscles remain weak, atrophy, fill up with oedema or fat and became even less functional giving rise to poor posture, limping gaits, poor balance and many other problems.
This patient kindly has written his feedback as he was one of my first “guinea pigs” after purchasing a compex machine at after attending the Arsenal Sports Medicine Conference. The Cefar Compex comes from the protocol by the physiotherapist at DJO UK LTD 1a Guildford Business Park, Guildford, Surrey, GU2 8XG United Kingdom
Unbelievable!
It was a knee injury that happened over four years ago. Having been a national level runner for some years I was used to injuries. This one, however, was different. It did not recede with treatment. I had tried various practitioners both in London as well as Edinburgh but none had the answer despite lots of sessions and various recovery exercises. It was put down to ‘getting older’ or ’wear and tear’. I wasn’t able to even run for a bus. For someone who used to train twice a day and up to 100 miles a week, this wasn’t how it was meant to be. Although my competitive running days are long gone, I thought I should at least be able to jog in the park or kick a ball with my two boys. I couldn’t even stand on my right leg without losing balance and was unable to walk in a straight line! My right leg had lost its strength, all from this knee injury. Unbelievable.
Then I met Helen How. Based on a recommendation from my neighbour, I thought she was worth a try. Within the first consultation she had listened and pinpointed the problem. On the second, she used ‘the machine’. I walked out of that consultation room with my knee feeling alive!
Helen had brought back knowledge from her recent visit to the Arsenal Physio Conference and applied it to my knee injury. Never before had my name been mentioned in the same breath as so many well known sports teams. Thanks to Helen, the ligaments and muscles were being switched back on and starting to work again. I continued my prescribed exercises at home alongside my fortnightly treatments for two months…
For our holiday this year, we went mountain biking, stand up paddle boarding, running on the beach and generally being active…oh yes, I also ran for a bus. I have lost a stone in weight. If you see a fifty- something man standing on one leg in the middle of Inverleith Park, don’t worry, it’s just because I can!
NO MORE PAIN!
UNBELIEVABLE!
